Artist:
Raymond Wittenberg

At 11.1cm (4 3/8”) high, the Venus was easily transportable by hand as the family moved across their landscape maybe used as a talisman or totem. I’ve heard one thought suggesting the sculptor represents the view she had of her own body as she carved the little shape to her own likeness.

Indeed the Venus suggests pregnancy as her condition not only as a wholly fertile woman but also as an artist in our modern understanding of this fact.
