Raymond Wittenberg
I migrated with my family to Australia 1955, the family settled in Geelong.
I love the creative act, it’s given me my identity and purpose as an artist, to create and be creative is also fundamental to the lessons I bring to my painting students here in Hobart emphasising the act of creativity as more than an art because indeed creativity makes us all human, it is this collective energy that some of us have the good fortune to recognise and create a personal discipline to harbour the love for which ever art form we favour. Painting is only one of many disciplines that enable an individual of any kind to harness it and cause the best of our culture in or our time here on this rock we call home.
Now I’m a mature painter after a lifetime of creativity for other people’s practices, though I completed a diploma of visual arts at Prahran technical college, Melbourne in the 70’s, followed by many years working, mostly in Sydney, in every possible artistic field from theatre and cultural and corporate events to studio work in property illustration, and in the last decades in education again assisting in art education, there in the secondary school environment curating regular art exhibits by professional artist and private school pupils alike.
Then for three decades or more I attended life drawing sessions and also exhibited regularly at TAP Gallery Darlinghurst.
Eight years ago I moved to Hobart and studied for a degree in art and design, this time at UTAS. I continue to paint and show locally. I won best theme painting in Hobart’s Royal Show 2022 and I continue to work as a private art teacher and also tutor with Adult Education at Rosny Library.
I continue to teach painting with Adult Education in Hobart.
